The third 100 Fry words and Dolch words
The 3rd grade is special to study Fry words. As we known, Dolch sight words list is based on reading from kindergarten to 2nd grade; and Fry sight words list focuses on reading from 3rd grade to 9th grade. If we compare the first 300 Fry words (also call Fry 300) with Dolch words, we will get a high ratio overlapping. At grade 1 and grade 2, some students still stick on Dolch words. But the 3rd grade is different. In this year, sooner or later the original Dolch students have to switch to Fry words. The third 100 Fry words are the right contents for kids who are just finishing Dolch words and switching to larger sight vocabulary.
The third 100 Fry words plus the first 100 and second 100 words are called Fry 300, which are the basic words of Fry sight list. No matter what they study before, grade 3 students should master all of them. Fry 300 is a prerequisite to learn other Fry words in higher grades.
